Frequently Asked Questions

Where do your sessions take place?

All of the sessions happen online. To enquire about alternative arrangements, please get in touch and I’d love to hear from you.

Are all of your classes online?

Yes. For more information about the advantages of online tutoring, please visit the ‘Why Online?’ page of this site.

How does the online technology work?

Lessons take place over Skype, with audio and video call. Simultaneously, I run interactive Google lesson slides, meaning both the student and myself can view, edit and work on the material together, live and in real time. This technology is trustworthy and accessible from laptops PCs or tablets, and I carry out checks every week before sessions, to ensure the technology is ready and functioning.

What is your availability?

Currently, I offer after-school weekday sessions, between the hours of 3-6pm. I aim to maintain the same time and day each week for every student, to provide regular and stable learning. Get in touch to find out more about my specific and up-to-date availability.

Are the sessions just in term-time?

This is up to you. I can offer regular lessons after school on weekdays purely in term-time, but if you would prefer consistency during the holidays too, this can also be arranged. I also offer holiday ‘camps’, for example looking at one book as a reading club, and working around a specific theme for several consecutive days. Please contact me to find out more. I take unavailability into consideration  when it is unavoidable and I like to work together with you as a parent/guardian to ensure reliability from both sides.

Are all the sessions 1-1?

Yes. I believe that learning is most effective when given the time and space to think independently, which is why I offer one-on-one tutoring, with one student and one tutor in the lesson. This also means a more personal and meaningful relationship can be forged between us, as well as a mutual and respectful trust. To enquire about sibling group sessions, please contact me.

How long is each session?

Each session is 1 hour long. This time can include a variety of topics (see my ‘Services’ page for further information). Please get in touch to enquire about alternative arrangements.

How much do you charge per session?

Sessions are £40 for an hour. I strive to offer competitive pricing for private tutoring which is tailored specifically to your child and their needs.

What is your background?

I was shy but academically gifted as a child, and I have seen first-hand the benefit of private tutoring. I achieved A-A* in all my GCSEs and As at AS and A-Level at school. I then went on to receive a first class English & Drama degree & a Masters with Distinction. I have years of experience of childcare and teaching, covering ages from 3-18, and I possess an Enhanced DBS. Now, I am a professional performer alongside my private tutoring. My natural creativity, confidence and ability to share a message and engage my audience feeds into my teaching work.

What kind of feedback will I get as a parent/guardian?

After each session, I offer a brief review of what was covered in the lesson and an evaluation of the student’s learning. This helps to ensure you are also kept updated with the progression of your child. I also provide termly full reports, with a more thorough explanation of the topics included so far, and an indication of the student’s learning trajectory, as well as their personal growth.

Will I have to supervise my child's lesson?

Please make sure that the device and technology are functioning and ready for the lesson, which may mean supervising the student for the start of the session. However after this, I have found it is often best to allow the child the independence and space to learn without the observation of a parent/guardian. I am also fully DBS-checked, so I am a tutor you can trust.
